The primary filter assembly in a modern General Electric (GE) dishwasher is located inside the interior tub at the very bottom base, situated directly underneath the lower rotating spray arm and surrounding the central sump basin. To access it, you simply open the dishwasher door, pull out the lower dish rack, and locate the cylindrical plastic filter cup. You can troubleshoot filter locations easily. You can verify that you have accessed the component correctly when you twist the cylindrical fine-mesh filter counterclockwise, lift it straight up out of the housing along with the upper flat mesh screen, and inspect it for trapped food residue and grease buildup.
