Frigidaire AC units are made in different locations depending on type. Frigidaire room air conditioners, including window units and portable air conditioners, are primarily made in China and other Asian countries by OEM partners for Frigidaire, which is owned by Electrolux, a Swedish appliance giant with US operations in Charlotte, North Carolina. These units are designed by Frigidaire Electrolux and manufactured overseas to keep costs low, then imported with UL and Energy Star certification. Frigidaire central air conditioning systems, which include split system air conditioners, heat pumps, gas furnaces, and air handlers sold through HVAC distributors, are made by Nortek Global HVAC, which is headquartered in O'Fallon, Missouri and operates manufacturing facilities in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and other locations in the US and Mexico. Nortek manufactures Frigidaire central HVAC under license from Electrolux, sharing platforms with Maytag, Broan, NuTone, and Gibson brands on the same assembly lines using many identical components like Copeland compressors and all-aluminum coils. So if you buy a Frigidaire window AC at Home Depot, it is made in China, while if you buy a Frigidaire central AC through an HVAC contractor, it is made in the USA by Nortek. Both carry Frigidaire branding but come from different manufacturing partnerships under the Electrolux brand umbrella.
