Zumiez was originally established in the Seattle, Washington area in 1978 by co-founders Tom Campion and Gary Haakenson under the initial store name "Above the Belt" before transitioning to the Zumiez moniker. The company evolved from a single shopping mall location into a premier global youth culture retailer, eventually launching its public stock offering in 2005.
