The Marshall University men's basketball team last made an appearance in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament in 2018. Coached by Dan D'Antoni, the Thundering Herd captured the Conference USA tournament championship to secure an automatic bid, earning a 13-seed in the Big Dance. In the opening round of the tournament, Marshall made national headlines by securing a historic upset victory over 4-seed Wichita State before bowing out in the second round against West Virginia.
