Synlait was founded in 2000 by John William Penno on the Canterbury Plains of New Zealand. The company began its agricultural operations with the acquisition of its first dairy farms before commissioning its state-of-the-art milk processing and manufacturing plant in Dunsandel in 2008, eventually expanding into specialized infant formula production.
