John Payne, widely famous as the rodeo performer known as the "One Arm Bandit," lost his right arm in a severe electrical accident in 1973 when he was 20 years old. While working on a ranch, he accidentally came into contact with a live electrical wire carrying 7,200 volts, resulting in extensive burns and injuries that required the amputation of his arm. Rather than letting the tragedy end his cowboy lifestyle, he completely reinvented himself and returned to professional rodeo arenas to perform incredible feats of horsemanship.
