Standard travel insurance policies explicitly exclude certain scenarios, most notably losses arising from pre-existing medical conditions (unless formally declared and waived), elective or cosmetic medical procedures, traveling against doctor's advice, and participation in extreme or unlisted hazardous sports. Furthermore, policies generally will not cover losses caused by civil war, illegal acts, intoxication, or failing to secure required travel documents, visas, or mandatory vaccinations prior to departure.
