Standard flood insurance policies explicitly exclude several types of water damage and related losses. They do not cover moisture damage caused by plumbing leaks originating from inside the house (which fall under standard homeowners policies), sewer backups unless specifically endorsed, or damage to currency, precious metals, and valuable paper securities stored in basements. Furthermore, flood insurance excludes temporary living expenses or additional living costs (such as hotel bills) if your home becomes uninhabitable due to a flood, and it does not cover vehicles, outdoor landscaping, swimming pools, or decks.
