Founded in Detroit in 1946 by William Russell Kelly as Russell Kelly Office Service, the enterprise pioneered the modern temporary help industry. As the business expanded rapidly during the postwar economic boom, it was officially renamed Kelly Girl Service, Inc. in 1957. By 1966, the firm broadened its capabilities into technical, industrial, and marketing divisions, prompting the final corporate name change to Kelly Services, Inc.
