An air conditioning system is triggered to turn on by a temperature signal sent from your indoor thermostat to the HVAC control board. When the ambient room temperature rises above your set target temperature, the thermostat completes an electrical circuit, sending a low-voltage (24V) signal through control wires to the indoor blower motor and the outdoor condenser contactor relay. Once the contactor closes, line-voltage electricity rushes to the compressor and fan motors, starting the cooling cycle. Verification: Listen for the "click" sound at your thermostat when lowering the target temperature.
