In practical engineering and construction, true absolute 100 percent waterproofing is rare because virtually all materials can permit moisture vapor transmission under extreme pressure or over long durations. However, heavy-duty high-density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembranes, thick stainless steel sheets, and impermeable glass or glazed ceramics come closest to being completely impervious to liquid water penetration when properly sealed and installed.
