In British Standard (BS) 8102 terminology, Type C waterproofing is classified as drained protection. Rather than attempting to block water out completely with barriers, a Type C system incorporates a cavity drain membrane (CDM) installed against internal subterranean walls and floors. Water that seeps through the structure is safely captured behind the membrane and directed toward a gravity drainage channel or sump pump system to be discharged away from the building.
