The oldest continuously operating professional sports franchise in Major League Baseball is the Atlanta Braves, who were originally established in Boston back in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings before undergoing various geographic relocations and historic name changes over the decades. Other foundational pioneer clubs, such as the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds, also trace their roots back to the 19th century, forming the historic bedrock upon which modern professional baseball was built.
