The single most common issue with traditional storage water heaters is the accumulation of hard water mineral scale and sediment at the bottom of the tank. Over time, calcium and magnesium particles separate from heated water and form a dense layer over the primary burner or lower heating element, causing localized overheating, rumbling noises, and severe thermal stress on the inner steel shell. If left unmanaged, this escalating thermal stress accelerates internal corrosion, degrades sacrificial anode rods, and eventually results in structural leaks.
