The official athletic mascot and unified brand identity for Long Island University is the Shark, represented by a spirited character named Finley. Following the unification of the university's athletic programs across its campuses into a single NCAA Division I entity, students and alumni selected the shark to embody strength, resolve, and regional connection to the surrounding coastal waters of New York.
