The difference between Juggalos and Juggalettes is primarily gender terminology within the fan community of the hip hop group Insane Clown Posse or ICP, though both refer to devoted fans with the same core cultural identity. Juggalo is the general and original term for any fan of Insane Clown Posse, regardless of gender, and was first popularized in the early 1990s during ICP's early albums. Juggalette is the specific feminine form used for female fans of ICP, similar to how actor and actress were historically used. Some female fans prefer to be called Juggalettes to highlight their identity as women in the community, while others prefer to be called Juggalos as a gender-neutral term and reject the gendered distinction. Culturally, there is no difference in beliefs, loyalty, or participation. Both Juggalos and Juggalettes share the same love for ICP's Dark Carnival mythology, wear similar face paint and Hatchetman merchandise, attend the annual Gathering of the Juggalos, use the same slang like Whoop Whoop, and participate in the same community values of acceptance for outsiders. The distinction is purely linguistic and personal preference, much like the difference between Latino and Latina. In recent years, many in the community have moved toward using Juggalo as an inclusive term for all fans, while still respecting those who identify as Juggalettes.
