The difference between duration and time is that time is broad concept measuring existence and sequence of events, while duration is specific measurement of how long something lasts within time. Time is continuous, ongoing dimension in which events occur, with past, present, future, measured by clocks and calendars, answering when something happens and providing framework for all events. Duration is length or interval of time that something persists, measured in units like seconds, minutes, hours, days, answering how long something lasts. For example, time might be 3 PM, duration is 2 hours. Time is point or continuum, duration is span. In physics, time is fundamental dimension, duration is elapsed time between two moments. In everyday language, time can mean moment such as what time is it, while duration means length such as duration of movie is 2 hours. In roofing, Owens Corning Duration shingles have name Duration meaning lasting, but time is when installed. In project management, time includes start time, end time, and duration is difference between them. So time is general, duration is specific measurement of time interval. Time exists independently, duration is portion of time occupied by event. For example, time goes on forever, duration of vacation is 7 days, which is part of time. So duration is subset of time concept focusing on length rather than point.
