Stage 1 of sepsis, often simply referred to as early sepsis or systemic inflammatory response syndrome due to infection, involves the initial systemic reaction where an infection triggers widespread inflammation across the body. During this stage, patients typically exhibit warning signs such as an elevated body temperature or hypothermia, an increased heart rate exceeding 90 beats per minute, and a rapid breathing rate. While organ failure has not yet fully manifested, recognizing and treating sepsis during this first stage with rapid antibiotics is critical to stopping its progression.
