In simple terms, Pangaea was a massive supercontinent that existed millions of years ago during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras. All of Earth's modern landmasses were joined together into a single giant continuous land block before plate tectonics slowly tore them apart over hundreds of millions of years to form today's separate continents.
