Before concrete undergoes its chemical curing process and hardens into a solid structural mass, it is universally referred to in the construction industry as fresh concrete, plastic concrete, or wet mix. During this stage, the material is a viscous, workable slurry composed of coarse gravel aggregates, sand, water, and cement powder that can be easily pumped, shoveled, raked, and poured into custom wooden forms. Contractors also refer to it as ready-mix concrete when it is transported in rotating transit mixer trucks directly from a batch plant to a construction site. Once placed, it undergoes an initial setting phase where it loses its plasticity before hardening into rigid stone.
