Anything that serves as a physical point of access or a formal recorded item can be called an entry. For example, a front doorway or gate is called an entry because it provides ingress into a property. Similarly, a submitted application for a contest, a scheduled ledger item, or a headword listed in an encyclopedia are all formally classified as entries.
