In modern internet, gaming, and colloquial slang, the term "basket" can carry a few distinct informal meanings. Most famously, being called a "basket case" refers historically to someone who is extremely nervous, emotionally unstable, overwhelmed, or unable to cope with life's pressures. Additionally, in urban sports and street basketball slang, phrases like "putting it in the basket" or scoring a bucket refer directly to successfully shooting a basketball through the opponent's hoop during competitive play.
