What is BankIowa's history?

BankIowa has a history that spans over a century, beginning in February 1921 when it was founded in Independence, Iowa, under the original name Farmers State Savings Bank. Throughout its long existence, the institution has remained a dedicated, locally owned, and independent financial provider, focusing its growth strategy on the needs of the communities it serves. By 1991, it had become the largest financial institution in Buchanan County with over $100 million in assets. In the late 1990s, the bank underwent significant strategic expansion, acquiring new facilities and entering Black Hawk County, which helped push its assets to over $180 million. To avoid confusion with other institutions in the region that used similar "Farmers Bank" naming conventions, the organization officially rebranded as BankIowa in June 1998. The turn of the millennium saw further growth, with the construction of multiple locations in Cedar Rapids. Today, BankIowa maintains a strong presence across several Iowa communities, including Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Independence, Jesup, and Waterloo, where it continues to provide a wide range of financial services as a cornerstone of the regional economy.
