An evap system can refer to two entirely different engineering applications: an automotive evaporative emission control system or a residential evaporative cooling system. An automotive EVAP system is a sealed network of hoses, valves, and a charcoal canister designed to trap harmful fuel tank vapors and route them back into the engine to be burned, preventing atmospheric pollution. A residential evap system, commonly known as a swamp cooler, is an architectural climate control appliance that pulls dry outdoor air through water-soaked pads to lower indoor temperatures through natural evaporation. While one is an emissions safety mandate for vehicles, the other is an energy-efficient cooling solution for homes in dry climates.
