Soffit panels are securely held in place by a combination of specialized metal or vinyl support channels—known as F-channels and J-channels—that are fastened directly to the exterior wall of the house and the inner edge of the fascia board. The individual soffit panels slide snugly into these parallel receiving channels and are further secured with corrosion-resistant nails, staples, or screws driven through pre-punched nailing flanges to prevent them from sagging or blowing away in high winds.
