When a 30-year term life insurance policy reaches its expiration date, the coverage terminates completely and the active death benefit ceases. Unless you convert the policy into a permanent product beforehand or renew it on an annual renewable term basis (which incurs drastically higher, age-adjusted premiums), the contract lapses entirely and no cash payout is returned to the policyholder.
