Kuwait Entertainment City, which originally opened in March 1984 as a premier family amusement park in the Doha area, was officially closed down in June 2016 to undergo major structural renovations and modern upgrades. Following its closure, the aging structures were completely demolished, and management of the site was eventually transitioned to government entities like the Amiri Diwan and the Kuwait Investment Authority to spearhead a massive reconstruction initiative. Plans for the revitalized mega-project include state-of-the-art theme parks, cultural zones, hotels, and tourist attractions designed to boost non-oil revenues and transform regional leisure infrastructure.
