A grain credit represents a financial or commodity-based unit of account issued by a grain elevator, agricultural cooperative, or grain bank when a farmer deposits physical crops. Instead of taking immediate cash payment, the farmer holds a credit note reflecting the quantity, weight, and quality grade of the deposited grain. This credit can later be redeemed for physical grain withdrawals, applied toward purchasing agricultural inputs like seeds and fertilizers, or converted into cash at prevailing market prices whenever the farmer chooses to sell.
