The term "Dikus" is a historical expression used by indigenous tribal communities—particularly the Santhals and Mundas in the Chota Nagpur region of India—to describe outsiders, moneylenders, traders, landlords, and British colonial administrators who entered their traditional forest regions. To the indigenous tribal populations, the Dikus represented oppressive exploiters who usurped their ancestral lands, imposed exorbitant debts, disrupted traditional communal land ownership systems, and reduced self-sufficient tribal groups to bonded agricultural laborers during the colonial era.
