Galectin-3 is a carbohydrate-binding protein heavily implicated in a wide range of pathological processes, including chronic inflammation, fibrogenesis, organ fibrosis, and cellular proliferation. Consequently, elevated levels or pathological dysregulation of galectin-3 are closely associated with severe medical conditions such as liver cirrhosis, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), heart failure, renal fibrosis, and certain aggressive forms of human cancers.
