Established originally in nineteen sixty-three, the institution was founded under the name Kennesaw Junior College. Over subsequent decades, as the campus expanded its academic programming, degree offerings, and physical footprint, it underwent several name changes—including Kennesaw College and Kennesaw State College—before officially adopting the name Kennesaw State University to reflect its comprehensive university status within the state system.
