The year 2026 officially began on a Thursday. January 1, 2026, marked the first day of the calendar year, following a standard 365-day cycle. This positioning in the weekly calendar cycle also influences the ISO week numbering system, resulting in specific calendar anomalies such as certain years containing 52 or 53 weeks depending on where the leap days and weekly boundaries fall.
