An automotive axle can fracture or fail due to a combination of extreme mechanical stress, chronic overloading, severe impact trauma from potholes or collisions, and long-term metal fatigue. When a vehicle repeatedly carries cargo weights exceeding its structural gross axle weight rating, internal shear stresses accumulate within the steel shaft. Additionally, corrosion pitting from road salt, manufacturing defects, or continuous high-torque shock loads applied during aggressive vehicle launches can weaken the material integrity until the axle ultimately snaps under operational strain.
