What are the three types of fades? In barbering, there are many types of fades, but three basic types commonly referenced are low fade, mid fade, and high fade, distinguished by where taper starts on head. Low fade starts low near ear, just above earline, with gradual transition, subtle and conservative, good for professional look. Mid fade starts around middle of sides, between temple and ear, balanced, popular, more noticeable contrast than low. High fade starts high up near temples or top of sides, creating strong contrast between very short sides and longer top, bold and dramatic. Other variations build on these, such as skin fade or bald fade where fade goes down to skin, drop fade where fade drops behind ear, temp fade around temples, burst fade around ear in circular shape, taper fade which is more gradual. So three main types low, mid, high describe height of fade line, each can be combined with skin or drop. Choosing depends on face shape, hair texture, and style preference. All involve gradual blending from short to longer using clippers, creating clean transition.
