Common problems reported with IKO shingles include issues with granule loss, premature cracking in cold weather, and color consistency, though many issues relate to older product lines or installation. One frequent complaint is excessive granule loss, where homeowners find granules in gutters shortly after installation, which can reduce UV protection if severe, though some shedding is normal. Another complaint is cracking and splitting in very cold climates, particularly with older organic mat or lighter weight three-tab lines, as asphalt can become brittle. Some contractors report that IKO Cambridge shingles can be more prone to curling if attic ventilation is inadequate and heat builds up. Color variation between bundles has been reported if bundles from different production lots are not mixed. Wind damage complaints occur when shingles are not nailed in the ArmourZone nailing area correctly. Historically, IKO had a class action settlement in the early 2000s regarding organic shingles that cracked prematurely, but modern fiberglass mat Cambridge and Dynasty lines have resolved those issues with improved mats and asphalt. Most problems are prevented by proper installation by a qualified contractor, adequate attic ventilation, and mixing bundles for color consistency. IKO offers lifetime limited warranty and has improved quality control in recent years, but it is still rated slightly below GAF and Owens Corning in some contractor surveys.
