Management frameworks popularized by modern agile methodologies define seven distinct levels of delegation that govern how much authority a manager transfers to a team: 1) Tell, where the leader decides and announces the choice; 2) Sell, where the leader tries to persuade the team; 3) Consult, where the leader asks for input before deciding; 4) Agree, where the leader and team decide together through consensus; 5) Advise, where the leader influences but leaves the final choice to the team; 6) Inquire, where the team decides and informs the leader afterward; and 7) Delegate, where the leader completely turns the decision over to the team without interference.
