Dropping your homeowners insurance is exceptionally risky and generally discouraged unless you own your home entirely free and clear of any mortgage and have substantial liquid capital to completely rebuild the property out-of-pocket following a total disaster. If you carry a mortgage, your lender contractually requires you to maintain active hazard insurance. Going without coverage leaves you entirely financially vulnerable to fires, severe storms, liability lawsuits, and total property loss.
