When a garbage disposal leaks water directly out of the red thermal reset button on the bottom housing, it indicates a total failure of the internal shaft seal. Water has bypassed the grinding chamber, filled the motor housing, and found the path of least resistance out through the reset button cavity. Because internal shaft seals cannot be repaired, you cannot fix this leak; you must replace the entire disposal unit. Callout type="warning" title="Electrical Safety Warning": Unplug the unit immediately. Verification: Confirm that water continues to drip from the reset button during use and prepare for unit replacement.
