West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil is classified as a quintessential light, sweet crude oil. It is considered "light" because of its relatively low density and API gravity, and "sweet" because it contains a very low concentration of sulfur (typically around 0.24%). These chemical properties make it exceptionally desirable and cost-effective for refiners to process into high-demand products like gasoline and diesel fuel.
