A Licensed Nursing Assistant is not inherently better than a Certified Nursing Assistant because they represent the exact same occupational role, scope of practice, and daily responsibilities. The only real difference between the two terms is geographic nomenclature, as state boards of nursing choose different labels for the credential—such as LNA in New Hampshire or Vermont, and CNA in the vast majority of other states. The training requirements, clinical competencies, state examination processes, and patient care duties remain fundamentally identical across both titles. Choosing between them is entirely a matter of where you live and practice rather than a choice between two distinct career tracks, meaning neither title offers superior professional status, legal authority, or educational advantages over the other.
