Registering and insuring a vehicle under your LLC can be a smart and tax-efficient strategy only if the vehicle is used predominantly (over 50%) for legitimate, ongoing business operations and commercial activities. Doing so allows the business to legitimately deduct vehicle expenses, depreciation, fuel, and insurance premiums. However, if the car is used primarily for personal commuting, putting it under an LLC creates complicated tax reporting hurdles, requires commercial auto insurance (which is usually more expensive), and offers zero personal liability benefit.
