Running a mini-split system on a 220 to 240-volt electrical circuit is significantly better, safer, and more efficient than operating a 110 to 120-volt unit, provided the system capacity requires it. Higher-voltage circuits draw fewer amps to deliver the same amount of electrical power, resulting in less electrical resistance, cooler wiring temperatures, and reduced strain on internal components during heavy cooling or heating loads. While small, low-capacity single-zone units designed for tiny rooms or sheds can operate on standard 110-volt current, larger single-zone and multi-zone systems require 220-volt lines to operate safely and effectively at peak performance.
