Keeping a mini-split system running continuously at a stable, comfortable target temperature is generally much more efficient and practical than turning it completely off when leaving the room. Modern inverter-driven mini-splits use variable-speed compressors that scale down their electrical output to idle at a low, steady maintenance level once the room temperature is reached. Shutting the system down entirely forces the unit to work at maximum capacity to re-cool or re-heat the space later, wasting electricity, creating noticeable temperature spikes, and increasing mechanical wear on internal electrical components.
