Intermountain Health (formerly Intermountain Healthcare) is not owned, operated, or financially controlled by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (often referred to as the Mormon Church). The organization was originally established in 1975 when the LDS Church chose to gift its fifteen community hospitals to an independent, secular, not-for-profit board of trustees to ensure community-wide governance. While it operates within a region heavily shaped by LDS cultural heritage, Intermountain Health functions as an independent, non-denominational healthcare system serving patients of all faiths and backgrounds.
