East Texas A&M University competes at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics governed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association, officially operating as a Division I institution. After spending decades competing successfully within the Division II Lone Star Conference, the university accepted an invitation to join the Southland Conference and successfully transitioned its athletic programs up to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision level.
