Dan Gilbert utilizes a wheelchair for mobility much of the time following a severe ischemic stroke he suffered, which primarily impacted the right side of his brain and affected the movement of the left side of his body. He has undergone extensive, rigorous daily physical and occupational rehabilitation regimens, utilizing modern therapeutic techniques and technological support to rebuild his strength. While he occasionally stands with the assistance of therapists or assistive devices, he continues to rely on a wheelchair as he manages the long-term recovery process.
