Breaking a double-pane window requires significantly more force than breaking a single pane because you must shatter two separate layers of glass separated by an air or gas-filled buffer zone. While standard annealed double-pane glass can still be broken with heavy blunt trauma, the dual layers and inner spacer construction absorb and distribute impact energy, making forced entry or accidental breakage considerably more difficult.
