To reset the sensors on your garage door that are part of safety system preventing door from closing if obstructed, you need to check alignment, clean, and reset power to restore function. Garage door safety sensors are small boxes near bottom of door tracks, one sending and one receiving infrared beam, with LED lights indicating status. If door won't close and sensor lights are blinking or off, sensors may be misaligned or dirty. First, inspect sensors for dirt, cobwebs, or debris blocking lens and clean with soft cloth. Ensure sensors are aligned facing each other with no obstruction, as even slight misalignment causes failure, and adjust by loosening wing nut and tilting sensor until both LEDs are solid, not blinking, with receiving sensor usually showing solid green and sending solid yellow or orange. Check wiring for loose or damaged wires at sensors and at opener unit. To reset, unplug garage door opener from power for 30 seconds to a minute, or flip breaker off, then plug back in, which resets opener logic board and sensors. After reset, test door by closing and waving object through beam to ensure it reverses. If sensors still fail, check for sunlight interference causing false blockage and shade sensors. If sensors are damaged or still not working, replacement sensors cost 20 to 50 dollars and can be installed DIY. Regular maintenance like cleaning lenses monthly prevents sensor issues.
