How big can a house centipede get? House centipede Scutigera coleoptrata typically grows to about 1 to 1.5 inches in body length, not including long legs and antennae, which make it appear larger, up to 3 to 4 inches including legs. Body is yellowish-gray with three dark stripes, 15 pairs of long legs, with last pair very long. They are smaller than many tropical centipede species. Tropical house centipedes or other species can be larger, but common house centipede in US and Europe usually 1 to 1.5 inches body. Some reports of larger individuals up to 2 inches body length, but not much bigger. Their legs make them appear bigger and faster. Compared to giant centipedes like Scolopendra that can reach 8 to 12 inches, house centipedes are relatively small. So house centipede size is about 1 to 1.5 inches body, up to 4 inches including legs, making them appear larger due to long legs and fast movement, but not huge like tropical giant centipedes.
