Hisense does not own the entire Toshiba corporation, but it acquired a controlling 95 percent ownership stake in Toshiba Visual Solutions (TVS)—the subsidiary responsible for Toshiba's television business—along with a 40-year global license to manufacture and sell televisions bearing the Toshiba brand name. Toshiba retained a minor 5 percent equity stake in the television subsidiary, while other divisions of the historic Japanese conglomerate, such as its home appliance sector, were acquired separately by other international corporate entities like China's Midea Group.
